Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 Review: Stop the War

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the sixth part of the popular first-person shooter series released by Infinity Ward in 2009. Its plot continues the events of the previous part. Your characters (you play for five different persons) are thrown into Brazil, Afghanistan, the USA, Russia, and even the orbit of the planet. Download Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on your computer and find out how the confrontation between the USA and Russia will end.

Graphics 4/5

The game has high-quality graphics for that time and detailed effects. Cinematic animations created using motion capture from real actors. There are no serious bugs that would prevent you from enjoying the process. However, especially attentive players may notice that some bushes and chairs are resistant to grenade explosions, and a lying enemy can be shot from a pistol through the entire map.

Gameplay 4/5

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay is quite standard for this genre, although the story, in our opinion, is written rather poorly. The brutal terrorist attack at the Moscow airport provoked the entry of Russian troops into the United States. According to the plot of the main single-player campaign (the passage takes about 7 hours), you alternately play for one of the five main characters and visit different corners of the world, either trying to defend the territory of America or tracking down dangerous terrorists.

There are many pieces of weapons, both cold and firearms, in Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 Review the representatives from almost all over the world. You can modify some types of weapons with additional modules, for example, with a heartbeat sensor.

As in the previous parts, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 retains the player's level system. As you level up, you unlock new skills and specific weapons. In addition to the single-player mode, the game has a multiplayer and a cooperative mode for two people. Especially for them, new missions, locations, settings, and weapons were added.

Controls 5/5

Controls in PC and Mac versions are carried out using the keyboard and mouse. At the same time, the game has wide opportunities for customizing the control system to your taste. In addition to the standard key settings, you can also switch between the so-called Behaviors, which affect the character's actions. E. g., choose Automatic Airborne Mantling, and your character will climb the ledges without additional keystrokes.

Replay Value 3/5

Since the game has a linear plot, you will not learn anything new for yourself replaying it from the beginning. You might want to play the game once again to make it better and collect in-game prizes. If you have not played Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 for some time and want to refresh it in your memory, this year, the developers released the Remastered version with improved graphics, lighting, and animation.

The Bottom Line

Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 is a good representative of classic first-person shooter games. In the single-player mode, you are in the thick of things and waging a spectacular war. And the network mode offers sophisticated maps and many battle options. Do not waste your time and download Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 to find out why it regularly gets on the list of the best video games.

Conclusion

Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 is a part of the popular franchise, in which, in addition to the high-quality single-player mode, there are also the Special Ops section and exciting online battles.

Pros:

  • Great visual effects
  • AI got smarter

Cons:

  • Messy change of locations
  • Weak plot
